An interview with Vermont dairy farmers. | This semester-long documentary project was developed by VFC Media Instructor Scott Miller in collaboration with Hanover High School educators Margaret Caldwell and Andrea Alsup. Scott visited their 11th grade class “Contemporary America: History and Culture” to give weekly workshops on how to make community-based documentaries. During this unit, forty-one students learned about the history of documentary film, the ethics of filmmaking, and then made their own ten-minute documentaries on topics they chose. The students were responsible for all the research, interviews, storyboarding, shooting, and editing of their films. They were required to include at least one original interview, and their own voice. The semester ended with a public screening in the school auditorium.
