Among the outstanding writers at the 1971 Breadloaf Writers' Conference in Middlebury were John Ciardi and Maxine Kumin. Ciardi, who was also the director of the conference, was Poetry Editor of the "Saturday Review" and a member of the National Institute of Arts and Letters. Maxine Kumin fills the difficult dual role of poet-novelist. At the time of the conference, she had three books of poetry and three novels to her credit, as well as numerous articles and reviews. Other writers, such as Issac Asimov (non-fiction staff) and Miller Williams (poetry staff) are also featured. These outstandingly talented people discuss their craft, writing, and their own work.
